Scadson Woods Bike Park

Scadson woods is the location for a new purpose built mountain bike trail for all abilities. It provides recreational, health and educational opportunities which benefit local people and helps to discourage illegal mountain biking which impacts negatively on local wildlife.

There has been a problem with mountain bikers using Scadson Woods for a number of years, creating dangerous trails and jumps that were built without permission and were not safe. By summer 2009 the trails had got longer and bigger and more dangerous and were also impacting badly on wildlife. A group of local riders were approached by Torbay Coast And Countryside Trust to find a solution which led to TQ3 Riders being formed. In October 2010 the group signed a license agreement to be able to build and operate professional downhill trails in the 13 acre Scadson Woods.

They are now building the first of 3 downhill trails each of which will be approx 500m long. The trails are being built to a professional standard following International Mountain Bike Association guidelines and will avoid badger setts and important wildflower areas. They hope to have the first trail complete for a launch in June. There will also be an area for beginners and a skills training area with a wide range of riding obstacles including a dual slalom track.

Some funds have been raised through fund raising events, such as sponsored rides, and a small level of sponsorship has been received from local companies who've supplied them with materials and tools for the trail build. Memberships are available to buy and Evolve Mountain Biking a local training group will train school groups, youth groups and interested individuals on riding techniques.
